Koi Buying Tour Schedule

Koi Buying Tour 2012 (to be updated soon)

“...the most exciting way to buy koi.”

The 2012 Koi Buying Tour is intended for koi hobbyists wishing to experience the excitement of selecting their own fish from the best koi breeders in the world while being exposed to the unique culture and tourists attractions of Japan.

This tour is open for anyone from around the world. We speak a common language and appreciate a common fish. Any purchased koi will be delivered directly to you via our agent network.  You meet up with us either in Japan, Singapore, Johannesburg or Cape Town however suits you best.  We take it from there.

A brief schedule of our 2012 Koi Buying Tour: (the latest 2012 schedule)

We depart Johannesburg or Cape Town Friday 12 October and spend the following day in Singapore.  That evening we fly to Japan arriving Sunday morning at Fukuoka Airport and after some formalities we leave Hakata Station. We have a restful day in the area of Hakata Station with various options for entertainment, cuisine and giant hi-tech duty-free shopping. You explore the night life of the Nakasu  district of Fukuoka City if you so wish.

We take the Shinkansen (“bullet train”) north towards the Hiroshima fish farms where we visit some of the most famous koi breeders in the world. Here one can do some serious koi buying places like Momotaro Fish Farm, Sakai Fish Farm, Omosako, Takegawa, Tamaura etc. if that is your aim. We do sightseeing in the Hiroshima area and then travel further north to Osaka-area with various options for sightseeing and entertainment,

Then we head for Tokyo for a two night stop-over. The choice is yours to “do-it” yourself or be guided to some of a number of Tokyo attractions like Electric City at Akihabara, the Imperial Palace, Rikugien Park in Ikebukuro, or Gokukuji Temple ,or Tsukiji fish market or Ueno Park that has a large number of options in itself, etc. Time just flies.

We then board the Shinkansen bound for Nagaoka, heart of koi country. Here we set up base camp from where we explore the surrounding koi farms of Niigata. The next few days we spend koi hunting in the beautiful Yamakoshi, Ojiya and surrounding areas.  We visit many famous koi breeders and have the opportunity to stand in front of the line for buying the best koi of the harvest season.  Only the size of your pocket sets the limit.  Breeders like Shinoda, Yamazaki, Ofuchi, Hiroi, Oomo, Kaneko, Marudo, Dainichi, Isa, Otsuka, Hoshikin, Aoki, Izumiya, Mazaki, etc. may be visited depending on the specific needs of the group.

On the 12th and 13th we will attend the great international All Japan Koi Show in Ojiya. Days will be rounded off with some “surprise” stops, after-hour entertainment and cuisine.

We explore the area by car. This is koi country and the place where these living jewels of nature originated from. If you have the slightest interest in ornamental fish or koi, you will find this detour a fitting way to end your tour which departs Wednesday or Thursday from Narita and will arrive Friday 2nd November 2012 in South Africa after a six-hour stopover in Singapore,

More information can be found in or FAQ pages.

Flexible. The tour is a balanced mix of koi buying and tourist activity based on our years of experience visiting Japan. The tour groups are small (5-8 people) and we try to cater for the individual needs and tastes. We also cater for those jetsetters with little time on their hands who want a shortened tour to just get on with the business of koi buying. Feel free to ask.

Singapore options (at your own expense):  Visit a multitude of tourist attractions on your own or take a guided tour.  Alternatively, we can organize a tour of the ornamental fish industry of Singapore for keen fish hobbyists.  Overseas clients coming from other destinations can meet up with us here in Singapore or Tokyo.

Buying koi is a simple matter. You select your koi at the breeder at the price he agrees to. Our agent will ensure the safe delivery of the fish in your country of residence.  This is the cheapest you can buy high valued koi. The pricing structure will be explained in detail later, but koi buyers can rest assured that their landed cost will effectively be better than local wholesale prices.

Flights:
We travel with outstanding Singapore Airlines, which means you can start and end your journey from either Johannesburg or Cape Town with the minimum amount of fuss and knowing that you and your baggage will be in the safe and secure hands of one of the best airlines in the world. It also means that you have an extendable stopover in Singapore where you can easily shuttle from the Changi airport to any spot on the island or simply “shop till you drop” in Orchard Road. We fly with the Airbus A380, the largest passenger airliner in the world, when possible.

Travel:
We don’t travel by luxury coach, but the way the people do. We travel by Shinkansen, or train or car. You can pick up a chat with the locals. You have to lug your own luggage, so you must travel light and be healthy enough to look after yourself.

Hotels: We stay in so-called business hotels which is good and clean by our standards. Some rooms however might be small by our standards. You will always be able to get your washing done for a reasonable fee.
