Discover
Japan Tour 2011
“You have not seen the world
if you have not been to Japan.”
The
2011
Discover Japan Tour
is intended for those young at heart wishing to
experience the unique culture of Japan. For almost
ten years we have been taking small groups of
tourists to the Japan to experience the home land of
koi. Now we have expanded the offering to a second
tour for those who are not interested in the koi
hobby. The tour is structured around a basic
historical route, but since we travel in a small
group of less than ten people, the fine structure of
the tour is adjusted according to the needs of the
individuals in the group. Whatever your interest,
whether its sumo
wrestling, Japanese art, bonsai,
ikebana, anime or
any of the uniquely Japanese activities, we will
cater for you if you tell us about it.
This tour is open for anyone from around the
world with a common interest. You meet up with us
either in Japan, Singapore, Johannesburg or Cape
Town however suits you best. We take it from
there.
A brief
schedule:
(the
latest schedule)
The
2011 Discover Japan Tour departs Friday 28
October
2011 from Johannesburg
or Cape Town international and arrives the next
morning in Singapore where we spend the day
sightseeing or shopping or both. That
evening we fly to Fukuoka arriving Sunday morning.
We have a restful day in the area of Hakata
Station with various options for entertainment,
cuisine and a giant hi-tech duty-free shop. We
explore the night life of the Nakasu district
of Fukuoka City.
Next day we travel to Nagasaki and in two days explore the
city and “secret” delights of historic interest.
We travel back to Fukuoka via Hirado and then on to Hiroshima by bullet train where we
spend two days. We visit Ground Zero, sight of the
first atomic bomb and other sightseeing spots.
Then we travel further north for two days in the Osaka-Kyoto-Kobe area, considered to be the
historic heart of Japan. It is a delight to watch
the autumn foliage everywhere.
We then spend two days in Tokyo. The choice is yours to “do-it”
yourself or be guided to some of a number of Tokyo
attractions like Electric City at Akihabara, the
Imperial Palace Rikugien Park in Ikebukuro, or Gokukuji Temple or Tsukiji fish market
or Ueno Park that has a large number of options in
itself, etc. Tokyo has everything for the modern
world citizen.
This is the point where the tour splits. Those on
the standard tour travel to Narita for a lazy afternoon in the expansive
gardens of the Naritasan Monastery and board the
flight to Singapore in the 10th and
arriving home on the morning of Friday
11 November 2011
. A short 14 days tour.
Those taking the extended tour travel north-west to
Niigata Prefecture for three days in the beautiful Yamakoshi
mountains
and surrounding Nagaoka
and
Ojiya areas. We explore the area by
car. This is koi country and the place where these
living jewels of nature originated from. If you have
the slightest interest in ornamental fish or koi,
you will find this extra detour a fitting way to end
your tour which departs Wednesday or Thursday from
Narita and will arrive Friday 18th
November 2011
in South Africa.
If koi does not interest you enough, this last week
can be spent exploring some of the many facets of
this beautiful country.

Flexible. The tour is a balanced mix of
tourist activities based on our years of experience
visiting Japan. The tour groups are small (up to 10
people) and we try to cater for the individual needs
and tastes. We also cater for those jetsetters with
little time on their hands who want a shortened
tour.
Singapore
options
(at your own expense): Visit
a multitude of tourist attractions on your own or
take a guided tour.
Alternatively, we can organize a tour of the
ornamental fish industry of Singapore for keen fish
hobbyists.
Flights: We travel with outstanding
Singapore Airlines, which means you can start and
end your journey from either Johannesburg or Cape
Town with the minimum amount of fuss and knowing
that you and your baggage will be in the safe and
secure hands of one of the best airlines in the
world. It also means that you have an extendable
stopover in Singapore where you can easily shuttle
from the Changi airport to any spot on the island or
simply “shop till you drop” in Orchard Road. We
fly with the Airbus A380, the largest passenger
airliner in the world, when possible.
Travel: We don’t travel by luxury
coach, but the way the people do. We travel by
Shinkansen, or train or car. You can pick up a chat
with the locals. You have to lug your own luggage,
so you must travel light and be healthy enough to
look after yourself.
Hotels: We stay in so-called
business hotels which is good and clean by our
standards. Some rooms however might be small by our
standards. You will always be able to get your
washing done for a reasonable fee.
